Freudian Fridays

Ever wonder why your favorite sexy vampire is so sexily wounded and brooding? Or wonder why that feisty fantasy girl just can’t make her relationships work? Find out here! Every Friday, I analyze a different fantasy character according to his or her parental and sexual relationships—hence the alliterative title.

For the past few months, we’ve been looking specifically at characters in urban fantasy, both in television and books. In the future, I’ll start analyzing characters from more traditional fantasy and maybe even science fiction.

Start here: Daddy Issues in Urban Fantasy

The Ladies
Buffy Summers
Selene (from Underworld)
Kate Daniels (series by Ilona Andrews)
Rachel Morgan (The Hollows series by Kim Harrison)
Bella Swann (from the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer)

The Gentlemen
Spike (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Eric Northman (from True Blood)

Coming Soon
Bill Compton (from True Blood)
Sookie Stackhouse (from True Blood)
Dante Valentine (series by Lilith Saintcrow)
Elena Gilbert (from The Vampire Diaries — television series, not the books by L. J. Smith)
Katniss Everdeen (from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins)

If there’s a character you’d like to see me analyze, leave a note in the comments! And if I haven’t read the books or seen the show, I’ll put that on my to-do list or maybe even ask you to write a guest post. Let’s get these characters on the psychoanalyst’s couch!
